Little Bang
A5 colour laser print, 2006.
'Little Bang' was exhibited in 'Another Product' at 'Cornerhouse' in Manchester 2006. An exploration of 'Britishness', the show began with the work of 7 artists. Each of these were then asked by the curators to forward the exhibition brief to other artists of their choice. This stage of the process was not limited by location. Michelle Deignan was asked to submit work by Paul Mcree of Colony Gallery in Birmingham and she asked another twenty artists to take part.
'Little Bang' considers cultural activity as a palliative for social ills. An image of a building being destroyed accompanies a text which resembles the language of a government agency's press release. This describes creativity employed to cultivate homogeneity.
