Time based web project for variablemedia.org, 2002.

Every day for five weeks, Michelle Deignan and Simon Goodwin randomly selected one of the addresses from the Variablemedia emailing list. The next day this email address was sent a password protected link to download a personalised gift. This gift was a 800 x 600 JPEG, colour typographic image featuring the identity portion of the email address it was sent to.

Each gift image was made by, creating a digital layout with the chosen font, printing this out on an A4 sheet and tracing it onto layout paper. This image was then hand coloured with coloured pencils, scanned and saved as a JPEG digital image file. This file was then uploaded to the variablemedia.org server for the recipient to download. Included with this gift were instructions on setting the image as a computer desktop picture.

The variablemedia.org website was updated by Deignan and Goodwin daily, as they added a thumbnail image of that day's digital image gift to a grid representing each day of the project. Only the chosen email recipient was offered the opportunity to view and download the full sized hand drawn image.
